I've been pretty busy this week with doing some PR work for Miss Phils-Aus.

I'l be doing a radio spot tonight after 8pm with Pinoy Radio on 98.5FM! So listen out for it! I'll be talking about what ive been doing lately, what i am currently doing and also just about my sponsors and giving a big shout out to them.

I'm also hoping to get another sponsor on board to back me for the pageant.. Its a bit of a surprise! So i'm hoping they'll say yes!

I think its always important to have a good relationship with your photographer because the end product is always a collaborative effort. And what an end product these shots were. I asked for editorial style shots and well... he delivered! He certainly did justice to the dress *love*

Icon Rehearsals

So we started the first day of rehearsals for Icon Avenue on Sunday! And after walking into rehearsals with a whole bunch of professional actors and a few Australian celebrity icons, i felt like the pressure was on for me to perform and perform well. Because afterall.. who am i in the scheme of things?

After feeling slightly intimidated with my surroundings, it was finally my turn... The only asian girl in a cast of caucasians. The only girl who didnt have a large onscreen pressence backed by tv shows and press. So what do you do? You deal with it and hope for the best.

We ran through a couple scenes and in true Onion fashion, the pressure was on to act spontaneously, naturally and unscripted. So i did.

Afterwards, i felt everyone (my audience of professional actors) staring at me. I sat down. Didnt say a word and felt a rush of disappointment run through me. Shortly after, the director says "Ok Aprille. Great. Thats a wrap". Feeling like, it was something a director says to an actor who couldn't pull through i left.

On the drive home, thats all i culd think about. How i could've improved or how i could've done better.

So to my surprise, this morning when i checked my email and there was an email waiting for me from the Director of Icon... i was shocked to see his feedback:

Aprille,

You nailed it today. I didn't even want to see you after the first few minutes.

Brilliant work. I will be in touch this week to confirm some dates etc.

It definitely put all my worries to rest and definitely gave me the validation i needed when it comes to this aspect of my career. You are always your worst critic. I shuld know!

RESCUE ME!

RESCUE- Van

So ive been home for about 2 or 3 weeks now and finally work has started to pick up again for me back home.

Today i had a 10hour day shooting for an up and coming tv series called Rescue hitting free to air tv early next week. So stay tuned for that!

As much as i love my job... great pay. easy work. doing something i love! Sometimes i just cant help but complain... i went to sleep at 2am this morning because i was shooting another project yesterday for the ABC.

Dilemma.

I had to be ready on location at 6am. Meaning 1 hour to drive there and 1 hour to get ready. Therefore, i had 2hours sleep!! And waking up at 4am to head to clovelly beach in the middle of winter is always fun!! And by fun i mean HELLA cold!

But i guess... i have things to be thankful for... thank god for catering... and PA's who chase you around and provide you with your own robe to keep you warm! *love*

For the most part.. i was telling myself.. if i was at home for 10hours i wouldnt be making any money... So, being here doing almost nothing while getting paid is definitely worth it.. It was a pretty long day of toughing it out in the cold and getting wet.

The whole episode was centred around shooting a scene which required us to be on the edge of a beach cliff taking part in some illegal raving activites.. then as karma would have it... a massive tidal wave comes and knocks us all out.. Thank god for the gorgeous rescue boys and rescue policemen =p no 28. and no. 26 mmmmmmm i *heart* my job

Anyways.. enough about that.. here are some photos..

I fell down 7. Stood up 8.

I was so ready to give up. To the point where i enrolled into uni today. Applied for a job back home. Emailed my travel agent and rescheduled my flight.

Life surprises you like that..

I was so ready and absolutely resolved to going back to the real world. To leave wonderland.

Then my phone rings.

Tomorrow seems to be the start of a new chapter. Nothing will be revealed until everything is set in stone..

Right now, i dont want to get my hopes up. What can i say.. theres still room for reality. change.

Its like the feeling that you get when you spend 23 hours out of your day rendering a movie you worked so hard to finish and the status bar is at 99%... For that entire time you hold your breath and pray that nothing goes wrong... you wait anxiously and patiently for the window to pop up that says 100% successful

Right now.. my status bar is at 99% and i have to wait until 2pm tomorrow to find out whether i was 100% successful.

Thank you for all the blessings.. Life truly is amazing and frustrating...

It feels like the universe is making me jump through loops to test my character. Whether or not i deserve it.. And it is testing who i am. It requires me to trade love for love. two things im passionate about. two things i want as much as the other. I guess life isnt perfect you cant have everything you want all the time.. but i hope eventually i will..

Feelings of extreme happiness and extreme depression is something i seem to be getting used to.. its all part and parcel of immersing yourself in this industry..

Some people dont believe in luck, i on the other hand, believe that luck combined with skill is what gets you through in this industry... So often your career life is in the hands of other people... casters, agents, clients, managers... And of course, your shelf-life is somewhat dependent on who you know and how well you use your connections.

Watching a friend of mine land job after job after job... of course makes me extremely happy for him.. not so happy for me haha... I know i will be continuously faced with rejection.. learning not to take it to heart is sometimes a lesson you need to teach yourself... because more often than not.. youre just not what they had in mind...

I was on a super high the first few months landing job after job.. and now i seem to have hit a low... im still getting jobs, but not the right ones.

Regardless, im thankful. Fall down seven times, stand up eight..

i guess i can be happy and grateful for all the hardships, tears, happiness, sacrifices, and blessings because atleast this way i have a story =) And atleast at the end of it all, i will have something to say for myself.. more than.. oh my parents were born into showbiz so all i had to do was say their name...

Its true, it gets you down when you put so much time and effort into making it work.. but everyone has a time.. and my time will come.

In the meantime... im thankful and i put my trust and my faith in god.

I havnt been able to blog in a while.. partly because ive been busy and partly because i havnt had constant access to the net.

The one thing i love about this industry is that if you get the right jobs it can really take you places. So far, ive been able to travel various parts of the Philippines all expenses paid, while getting paid to do something i love. In february i got to fly to cebu for mtv which is another place tourists and locals could only wish to visit- plantation bay <3

And in 2weeks im flying to boracay <3 which happens to be a tourist must see destination when you come to the philippines. Its famous for its white sand and crystal clear water.. It is something almost akin to bora bora! Flying there in summer is super expensive too.. So i feel extremely lucky to be going there all expenses paid.. what more could one ask for? Paid to party in paradise?

Ive always always wanted to go and so im thankful and appreciative that this industry is allowing me to visit places i could only dream of visiting.. The only thing now is.. i dont want to get dark! haha Im currently on whitening medication so... i need to stock up on spf 80 so that the medicine doesnt go to waste!

Hopefully.. the next out of town trip will be to another country =p See what happens?

... a word you must get used to in this industry... unfortunately thats how this industry works.. and thats how this industry has worked since forever.

On being humble
Since you never know when you will get a call or a job... ideally, the lesson you take away from it all is a lesson on being humble... The one thing i hate about the industry is that when people get "famous" all of a sudden they change... and we all know what type of change that change is... If anything... ive learned that you must be grateful and thankful at all times.. because as easily as you're given all of these wonderful opportunities, they can be so easily taken away..

Unlike a stable job mon-fri 9-5, your career is always in the fate of others.. so much so you could go weeks without anything then one day have everything...

If consistency is what your after, then:
a) you have got to be extremely good to continually book jobs or
b) look elsewhere

Like i said... its all about the FLUX

On being surprised
The one thing i love love love about this industry is that element of surprise... its like the feeling you get when waiting for toast to pop up or opening mail and waiting to see whats inside...

I find that youre always waiting.. waiting at castings, waiting for callbacks, waiting to hear results.. waiting at the shoots haha

But despite all this... there is always some kind of surprise.. whether its good or bad... this industry keeps you on your toes..

After feeling sad for a few days.. my surprise(s) finally came! and its an amazing feeling.. like its your birthday everytime you get that call... for me.. its almost akin to being in love for the first time.. or a first date.. you feel everything from butterflies, extreme euphoria, to happiness and nervousness...

On insecurities
You learn very qucikly that being nice in this industry is a double edged sword.. and me being the geuninely nice person i am.. haha what? i am! =p can sometimes land you in trouble..

Once again F-L-U-X. Working in such a competitive industry, you never know who to trust or who your friends are..

One minute you think you've made a friend.. but give it 2seconds and they'l stab you in the back.. a lot of the times it comes from competitiveness and jealousy... once again something that i hate.. as friends, you should be supportive and/or proud that your friends are doing well.. you shouldnt try and bring them down, bitch about them if they aren't doing well or stab them in the back... *sigh*

You learn that its necessary to be genuinely nice, but not overally nice because people take advantage of you.. and/or make up stupid things about you. And you also learn that there are some people here who fall into a few categories:
a) user friendly
b) toxic friends and
c) friends for the duration you need to be friends for

Advice
Its a weird thing to comprehend.. but they say artists/models/ entertainers are usually the most insecure people in the planet.. no wonder why! The only person you can really trust is yourself!

Confessions of a 5’1 rebel queen

I decided to start this blog to document the progress, trials, hardships, emotional journey, successes and failures of a long hard road to getting what ~~you~~ i want...

Lately, ive been feeling an array of emotion. Severe happiness and gratefulness for all the wonderful opportunities that ive had in such a short amount of time... but also tinges of disappointment or something akin to that due to not getting what i want 100%... more and more everyday i realise new things.. some good some bad..

This blog is nothing but truth... it may be confronting at times for you.. and for me.. but its also for me to express whatever im feeling... and for you to see what its really like...

Lets talk Philippines only.

Being in the industry now for 3months has really made me realise, to its full effect, what it is actually like being immersed in the industry from head to toe... i never really considered myself a fully fledged model/artist until i came here... and it hit me.. im doing this full time.. and im getting jobs and im getting myself out there... its no longer fun and games... its serious.. serious in the sense that in order to well i need to take it seriously and do the things necessary to continue to make myself viable.

First and foremost, doing this is a passion.. so it must always be something that i enjoy.. and it is. Its an amazing experience and an extreme learning curve at the same time.

Keen to make things happen when i first arrived, a respected industry personnel and friend said to me.. being in the industry is about having the right skills, attitude and most importantly, that element of luck. It doesn’t matter how good you are, sometimes luck is all you need. And so far, you could say ive been lucky.

Realisations

Lately, ive been working my ass off to get myself into not only the perfect weight but also the perfect body shape/size that is required of me here... and believe or not... i have really come to understand the gravity of the whole weight loss issue that so many models face and so many people mock or typically associate to people in the industry.

When competing for jobs at castings and seeing everyone around you who are thinner than you.. (when you yourself are already thin) does put pressure on you. It sounds stupid.. but like in every industry or job there is that one thing that sucks or there is that something that you don’t like doing.. and in this industry its keeping an eye on your weight... i find myself constantly working out at the gym, severely watching what i eat and constantly keeping an eye on how my body is going.... i mean im not being ridiculous nor am i caught up... i know what is healthy and what isn’t.. and i know when to stop.. =) but i have noticed that im getting weight obsessed.. and ive realised more than ever, in this industry you are a walking talking business.. so you need to maintain yourself to the standards of the industry.

Frustrations

Don’t burn yourself out. Passion comes from within and sometimes i feel like im doing it for the sake of doing it. Going to castings for the sake of going to castings and not missing a single casting under the mentality that if you do.. you could have potentially missed an opportunity. You know when you have exceeded your limits.. sometimes i feel that way and it gets to a point where i try so hard to feel the passion and the fire and desire that is usually 100% there, that makes you feel and believe you can achieve anything but i guess ive realised you cant force it.. and when its not there it means youre no longer doing it for passion but because i have to..

i get frustrated at times, because i believe and expect to continually get jobs.. but it might not happen that way... and thats when i get frustrated and i feel inner panic.. ive always been like that.. with everything i do i apply so much pressure on myself to complete tasks and get things done and achieve things by certain dates (sometimes unrealistic) and when they dont exactly measure up.. i feel stressed... lately thats how ive been feeling.. February was incredible! And my only hope is it will continue to be as successful if not more.

Everyday i learn things, see things, realise things that will help me better myself and better equip myself in this industry.. just like a lawyer needs to constantly update their self with the law, learning these new skills is helping me to constantly update myself with what i need to survive.

Advice

Whoever said doing this was easy was. .wrong... and whoever felt that just because you’re from another country gives you an instant pass to the express lane was also wrong. Doing this is hard work. It takes hard work. Its challenging. Be prepared to sacrifice a lot. Feel disappointment. Feel threatened. Feel hardships. Feel as though theres no hope at times.. its a competitive industry to play with. But.. when it works, it works! And the thing about this industry is you get rewarded for working hard and when you are rewarded its great.

But remember, dont walk into this industry unprepared because every day is war. And people in this industry are said to go through more job interviews than an average person would in their lifetime.

So let the best man or woman win!

Anyways... i gotta get some beauty sleep...
